Find out where your engineering organisation loses time

Most late programs are not late because the engineering was hard. They are late because a decision was made twice, a handoff lost something, or work was called done by someone who meant something different by it. This scorecard measures the five places that happens, and tells you which one is costing you most.

The Instrument

Five dimensions, twenty questions, one number

Every question asks about something observable — an event that either happened or did not in the last quarter. Nothing asks how you feel about your organisation. That is deliberate: a score built from behaviour is one you can defend in front of your own leadership team, and one that means the same thing when you run it again in ninety days.

Scored out of 20 per dimension and 100 overall, against a target of 80. The target is not arbitrary: below it, the coordination cost is large enough to show up in your schedule.
